How this site is built

Accessibility.

What has been tested, stated plainly — and what has not.

The target

WCAG 2.2 AA. Every colour pair used on this site was measured before it was committed and the ratios are written into the stylesheet as comments; an automated check parses those tokens back out of the stylesheet so a colour cannot be changed and keep passing on its old value.

Motion

The scrolling hero, the pinned rail, the reveals and the smooth scrolling are all disabled entirely when your system is set to reduce motion, and nothing is left hidden as a result — the page becomes an ordinary static one with every word still on it. Smooth scrolling is also off on touch devices, because the operating system’s own scrolling is better than anything a website can write.

Keyboard and screen readers

  • A skip link is the first thing in the tab order on every page.
  • One h1 per page, and heading levels never skip.
  • A visible focus ring, defined once, with a variant for light sections.
  • Escape closes the mobile menu and returns focus to the button that opened it.
  • Headings are split by word rather than by character, so they still read as sentences.
  • Decorative images carry empty alt text; the hero is described.
  • Every route is checked with axe-core at several viewport widths.

No JavaScript

With scripts blocked the whole site still renders: every section is visible, the hero shows its resting composition, and every link works. Nothing on this site is hidden behind a script.

What is not claimed

Nothing on this page describes physical access to a premises, because there is no premises and Highbough Tree Care does not exist. On a real build this is the section where it is tempting to promise things nobody has checked — a step-free approach, an accessible toilet. Those claims get removed unless somebody has actually been and looked, because a person can travel a long way on the strength of one.

Telling us

If something here is hard to use, the right thing on a real site is a phone number that reaches a person. The number on this one is fictional. If you are looking at this as a sample of our work, SearchSpruce Studio is where to raise it.
