Stump grinding
Stump grinding Comox Valley
Ground below grade so you can replant or turf over.
What stump grinding involves
Stump grinding across the Comox Valley is the step that turns a removal into a finished yard. The grinder takes the stump and the flare roots down below grade so the ground can be levelled, turfed, paved or replanted.
What is included
- Grinding to roughly 20–30cm below grade, deeper if you are replanting
- Surface roots taken back where access allows
- Grindings raked back into the hole, or removed if you want topsoil instead
- Utility locate before the machine starts
Who it suits
Anyone who has had a tree taken out, is putting in a fence or patio, or is tired of mowing around a stump.
Worth knowing afterwards
Grindings are wood, not soil — they will settle and they rob nitrogen while they break down. If you are laying turf, take them out and bring topsoil in.

Questions about stump grinding
Usually 20 to 30cm below grade, which is enough for turf, a patio base or a fence line. Tell us if you are replanting in the same spot and we will go deeper and take out more of the root plate.
A narrow-access machine fits through most gates around 90cm. If the only way in is over a finished patio or a septic field, we will say so at the quote rather than on the day.
We run the utility locate. What we cannot see is private lines — irrigation, invisible fencing, a drain someone installed themselves — so tell us about anything buried that we would not find on a map.
