Arborist reports
Arborist report Comox Valley
The written report a municipal tree permit asks for.
What arborist reports involves
An arborist report in the Comox Valley is the document your municipality asks for when you apply to remove or build near a regulated tree. It is written by a certified arborist, it identifies and measures the trees, and it says plainly what is proposed and why.
What is included
- Site attendance, species identification and DBH measurement
- Condition and structure assessment for each subject tree
- A tree protection plan and drip-line fencing detail where building is proposed
- Photographs, a site sketch and the recommendation
- A PDF formatted for submission with your permit application
Who it suits
Permit applications, development and subdivision, neighbour disputes, and anyone told by a planner to "get an arborist report".
Worth knowing afterwards
The report is the arborist’s professional opinion, not a permit. The municipality decides, and occasionally they decide against — a report that promises approval is not a report worth reading.

Courtenay and Comox both regulate tree removal on private property and will ask for a report in most permit applications. Cumberland has no tree bylaw at the time of writing but does keep a significant tree list. Confirm the current requirement with your own municipality before you apply.
Usually a week from the site visit, less if a permit deadline is on you. The site visit is the part that has to be booked.
